Geopolitical Theories and Practices

This course examines how geography and power shape international relations, covering geopolitical theory, strategic geography, geoeconomics, alliances, and scenario-based analysis.

Introduction

Geopolitical Theories and Practices explains how geography, power, and resources shape relations between states, and how leaders read those forces well enough to act. Trade routes, energy corridors, chokepoints, and demographic shifts determine which countries matter and where friction appears. This Geopolitical Theories and Practices Training Course builds the analytical foundation for that work. Participants examine classical and modern geopolitical theory, sea power and land power traditions, heartland and rimland models, and contemporary approaches such as critical geopolitics and geoeconomics. Furthermore, the course covers sanctions, resource competition, alliance structures, and regional dynamics. It also addresses how to translate geopolitical analysis into risk assessment and strategy. As a result, participants leave able to interpret international developments with structure rather than commentary.
